Outings Report: July 2024

It was a lovely, lively July — and we are delighted to share these event highlights:

Embroidery with Cottonwood Center for the Arts
Colorado Springs, July 1
Participants: Operation TBI Freedom (OTF), Yellow Ribbon Fund

Embroidery was a healthy stretch for several of our participants, who enjoyed learning this new skill.

Equine-Assisted Learning with the Remount Foundation
USAF Equestrian Center, Colorado Springs, July 9
Participants: OTF, VA

This is a calming and centering time — and several veteran participants said they’re eager to return. We focused on exercises aimed at helping them build a great relationship with a horse. Afterwards, participants enjoyed a trail ride.

Fly Fishing at Lincoln Hills with Anglers of Honor
Denver, July 13
Participants: OTF, Ft. Carson Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU), VA, Craig

Spring runoff is almost finished — so we enjoyed a sparkling, clear creek. Thanks to our expert guides from Front Range Anglers for showing us the fundamentals before everyone suited up and headed to the water on this beautiful day. After a fun morning, we told fish stories over a delectable lunch provided by Gondolier Italian Eatery.

Blacksmithing and Welding with Kilroy’s Workshop
Colorado Springs, July 20
Participants: OTF, SRU, VA

We were delighted to share this experience with a few first-time participants of River Deep events. Novices worked on making their own knife, and more experienced participants worked on advanced blacksmithing projects or tried welding.

Leather crafting with Art Students League of Denver
Denver, July 16
Participants: Craig, VA

Instructor Jenna showed our participants how to transform pieces of leather into smartly designed and personalized pieces of art. To help everyone learn the basics we focused on the creation of drink coasters.
